About 2011 Communication`s Challenge
April 04 2011

The communications challenge initiative was first introduced by the IRF in 2001. It was premised on the notion or catch phrase of going beyond PF 86 and 90. PF 86 is a circular to the Pension Funds Act No. 24 of 1956, and stipulates the minimum disclosure obligations by a fund. PF 90 makes provision for disclosures based upon the occurrence of specific events or in certain scenarios.
The Conference will be from the: Date :4th -6th September 2011 - ICC Durban
These PF’s however are minimum requirements and do not take cognizance of the member and the member’s need at different stages of his or her life.
This brings us to the important question of what does a fund communicate to its member and how can a trustee make sure that that communication is actually reaching the member.
The communications challenge aims to pool different fund communication strategies and to assess which strategies are the best. By doing this the challenge encourages funds to actually think of a strategy and it also aims to highlight good strategies to the industry and their trustees.
The Challenge has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception and has become a prestigious and respected competition hosted by the IRF annually.
We are always endeavoring for more funds to enter each year and that is the reason we adjust the criteria annually; so that we accommodate the industry and its trends. This year we have introduced the micro fund category.
We encourage funds to enter the Competitions Challenge because they are able to get feedback on their communications strategy from our panel of expert judges. Our panel of judges is a great ‘tool’ to be utilized. If you’re not going enter the challenge I would encourage you to familiarize yourself with the winning entrants strategies; by doing this you can assess your own funds communications strategy.
Good luck to all entrants!
The winners will be announced at the Gala dinner, on the 5th of September 2011 at the Durban International Convention Centre.
